dallas family and newborn photographer

Welcoming a new baby is such a special time, and it’s an honor to help families preserve these fleeting moments. I take a limited number of newborn sessions each month to ensure every family receives a relaxed experience, personalized care, and plenty of flexibility around baby’s arrival. Below, you’ll find answers to common questions, a peek into my newborn portfolio, and details on how to book your session.

Welcome!

Your postpartum recovery is always the most important thing when considering timing for your session. We want you to be physically able to do the session and feel comfortable. I have found that the sweet spot for newborn sessions is between 2-3 weeks after birth and can even be shot to up to 2 months old. Parents (especially first time) are typically a little less stressed and more relaxed if the session is not immediately after they arrive home from the hospital.

how soon after birth should the session be?

Indoor newborn sessions typically take place in the mornings. Babies tend to be happier and sleepier in the mornings. We also want to take in consideration of what time of day the light is best in your home!

What time of day will the session take place?

Feedings, diaper changes, and soothing the baby can take a good chunk of the time during a session. We want to make sure the baby is content and comfortable, so we work around their schedule and happiness! Patience is key with these sessions!

Why is the session up to 2 hours long?

q:

I highly recommend booking your session while you are in your 2nd trimester to guarantee my availability! I only take a handful of newborn sessions a month, that can book up to 6 months in advance!

I'm pregnant, when should i book with you?

Questions

I prefer the focus to be on your sweet baby and your family. In my lifestyle sessions, the baby will not be put into unnatural positions or posed. We will take the baby's lead! I do have swaddles (a variety of neutrals and different textures, pink, white, blue, 2 Beaufort Bonnet Bow Swaddles), and a Moses basket that I bring to sessions that are available for client's use if they choose!

A:

Do you have any props to use?

q:

I do light retouching on all of my images. This means that if there are any glaring objects that should be removed (such as a bump from the tumble your toddler took that morning,) I'll remove it. I will also do light retouching on any baby acne. Larger edits (such as removing tan lines,) require more time and would require me to add additional editing hours to your collection.

A:

Will you retouch the images?

q:

I take a certain number of due dates per month. Once you are booked and I have your due date- you will keep me updated on either an induction date or within 24 hours after you deliver! From there, we will pick a date within those next weeks that work best for both of our schedules (and/or a studio!).

A:

How do we book if we don't know when the baby will arrive?

q:

While I do not have a client closet of my own, I highly recommend having our session take place at TCC Studio. You'll have access to a beautifully curated wardrobe of outfits for both mom and baby for an additional $50 fee.

I also offer a monthly style guide that includes full family looks with clickable links to shop, making it easy to coordinate outfits for your session whether you're at home, outdoors, or in a studio.

Those first few weeks with a newborn can feel like a whirlwind—and the thought of cleaning and prepping your home for a photo session can be just one more thing on your already full plate. That’s why a studio session might be the perfect fit! You can leave everything as is at home and simply arrive at the studio, ready to relax and soak in the moment.

Lighting also plays a huge role in creating the bright, airy style you see in my work. If your home doesn’t have a lot of natural light or large windows, a studio is likely our best option. Overhead lighting in homes can be harsh and unflattering, especially on faces, so natural light is always the way to go!

A few of my favorite studio spaces in DFW are The Atelier Dallas, The Beverly Harris House in McKinney, and The Lumen Room Dallas. Each one offers beautiful lighting and a peaceful space that’s perfect for newborn sessions.

Studio fees vary depending on the location, so feel free to reach out if you'd like more details or help choosing the best fit for your session!
