Newborn Investment Guide

Katelyn holbrook

dallas family and newborn photographer

Welcome! I'm Katelyn! I'm a Dallas family and newborn photographer based in Canton. My love for photography started with my own children when they were just little ones. I saw first hand just how quick it all goes and wanted to document the early years. I would be honored to capture this sweet season of your family's life. Newborn sessions are my passion and hold such a huge place in my heart. You will never regret having them to look back on.

Newborn Sessions

Indoor newborn sessions are held weekday mornings August-May. Weekends are available June & July.

Some of my favorite studios in the DFW are The Atelier Dallas, The Beverly Harris House in Mckinney, and The Lumen Room Dallas.

The first few weeks with a newborn can be overwhelming. Adding on the task of cleaning your home and getting it photo ready, may be too much stress for you! This is why the studio may be a more practical option. You can leave your home just the way it is and come to the studio for your session!

Lighting is everything! If your home does not have an abundance of natural light or windows, a studio would be our best option. To achieve the light and airy style you see in my portfolio, we will need that bright natural light! Overhead lighting in homes can be very unflattering to our faces, so that is why natural is best!

Studio fees vary by location ranging from $75-$100/hour.

Studio Sessions

Your postpartum recovery is always the most important thing when considering timing for your session. We want you to be physically able to do the session and feel comfortable. I have found that the sweet spot for newborn sessions is between 2-3 weeks after birth and can even be shot to up to 2 months old. Parents (especially first time) are typically a little less stressed and more relaxed if the session is not immediately after they arrive home from the hospital.

how soon after birth should the session be?

Indoor newborn sessions typically take place in the mornings. Babies tend to be happier and sleepier in the mornings. We also want to take in consideration of what time of day the light is best in your home!

What time of day will the session take place?

Feedings, diaper changes, and soothing the baby can take a good chunk of the time during a session. We want to make sure the baby is content and comfortable, so we work around their schedule and happiness! Patience is key with these sessions!

A:

Why is the session up to 2 hours long?

q:

Book your session while you are in your 2nd trimester to guarantee my availability! I only take a handful of newborn sessions a month, that can book up to 6 months in advance!

I'm pregnant, when should i book with you?

Questions

I prefer the focus to be on your sweet baby and your family. In my lifestyle sessions, the baby will not be put into unnatural positions or posed. We will take the baby's lead! I do have swaddles (a variety of neutrals and different textures, pink, white, blue, 2 Beaufort Bonnet Bow Swaddles), and a Moses basket that I bring to sessions that are available for client's use if they choose!

A:

Do you have any props to use?

q:

I do light retouching on all of my images. This means that if there are any glaring objects that should be removed (such as a bump from the tumble your toddler took that morning,) I'll remove it. I will also do light retouching on any baby acne. Larger edits (such as removing tan lines,) require more time and would require me to add additional editing hours to your collection.

A:

Will you retouch the images?

q:

I take a certain number of due dates per month. Once you are booked and I have your due date- you will keep me updated on either an induction date or within 24 hours after you deliver! From there, we will pick a date within those next weeks that work best for both of our schedules (and/or a studio!).

A:

How do we book if we don't know when the baby will arrive?

Next Steps

-Ask any questions you may have! Let me know your due date, what city you're located in if you're wanting an in- home session (travel fees may apply if outside of Dallas County).

-I'll check my calendar for availability for your due date month.

I’ll shoot you a contract and invoice so we can make it official. 50% is due at time of booking. Remaining amount is due 2 months before your due date or session date. No rush on deciding about a studio session at the time of booking! We will get that squared away closer to your due date!

-You'll keep me updated on your due date or if you have an induction date scheduled. When the baby arrives you'll send me a message letting me know! We will then pick a date within the next few weeks that work for both of us!
